For Hochland, protecting biodiversity is a key way to secure the future: it allows us to preserve habitats, promote biodiversity, and strengthen agriculture in a sustainable manner.
What does biodiversity actually mean?
Biodiversity refers to the variety of life – from plants and animals to different habitats. It is the foundation of a healthy environment, clean water, and a stable climate. By protecting biodiversity, we ensure that nature remains in balance for generations to come.
How do we go about it?
Hochland is the first dairy in Germany to join the Food for Biodiversity association. Together with partners from the retail sector and the environmental protection community, we are developing solutions to promote biodiversity. Through pilot projects, we are assessing the biodiversity contributions of our milk suppliers, such as by creating habitats for insects and birds or practicing sustainable soil management. In addition, we are implementing region-specific initiatives.
Our commitment to protecting forests and natural habitats
Forests play a crucial role in preserving biodiversity and regulating local and global climate patterns. As part of the Science Based Targets Initiative, Hochland Deutschland has set itself the goal of not permitting deforestation or land-use conversion in the areas where our most important raw materials are sourced. In this way, we are doing our part to protect forests and other near-natural ecosystems, as well as to combat climate change.
