Our Approach to Climate Protection
As a food manufacturer, we actively take shared responsibility for climate protection. The majority of our CO2e emissions originate along the agricultural supply chain. These emissions fall under the category of forestry, land use, and agriculture emissions (FLAG emissions). This is precisely where our Sustainability Roadmap 2030 comes into play, enabling us to develop and implement sustainable solutions together.
Our clear goal is to reduce our CO₂e emissions by 30% by 2030 compared to the base year of 2023.
At the same time, we want to strengthen our ability to adapt to climate change in order to ensure the long-term future of our core business.
Climate protection requires cooperation
We are convinced that climate protection is most effectively achieved through collaboration. That is why we plan our group-wide activities with a forward-looking approach, taking our customers’ goals into account. We already offer cheese products with significantly lower CO2e emissions. At the same time, with our Simply V brand and a diverse portfolio of vegan alternatives, we are setting new standards for taste and variety – even without milk.
Changes in milk production are challenging, but together with our milk suppliers, we are successfully shaping them. We provide targeted support to help them contribute to achieving our CO2e targets through efficiency-enhancing measures. In addition, we are actively committed to the development and establishment of industry standards.
Energy Management at Our Plants
At our European plants, we are investing in a future powered by renewable energy. We prioritize flexibility in our investments to further expand our share of renewable energy in the future. Our energy management system (certified to DIN ISO 50001 in Germany) ensures that we continuously improve our energy efficiency. Our European plants already use 100% green electricity and generate an increasing portion of their energy needs through sources such as solar power systems.
