It all started with a small dairy in the Allgäu region, Bavaria. Today, Hochland is home to subsidiaries on several continents. In addition to two German plants, eleven further cheese production plants belong to the group. They are located in France, Spain, Poland, Romania, Russia and the USA. Moreover, since 2015, the engineering company Hochland Natec has a service office in the US and a subsidiary in Australia.

In 1931 the first cheese factory of the Hochland group was opened in Heimenkirch in the Allgäu. At this site, our employees manufacture processed cheese and process and package hard and semi-hard cheese.

Heimenkirch, about 20 kilometres from Lake Constance, is today the headquarters of Hochland SE, Hochland Deutschland GmbH and Hochland Natec GmbH.

Hochland SE is the parent company of the Hochland Grou, steering the international subsidiaries.

Hochland Deutschland GmbH is responsible within the group for the German brand business. Hochland is represented in all major cheese segments with the well-known cheese brands Hochland, Almette, Grünländer, Patros, Valbrie and Gervais. The portfolio includes processed cheese, cream cheese, hard and semi-hard cheese, soft cheese, feta cheese, cottage cheese and quark with herbs.

Schongau is situated in the Alpine foreland of Upper Bavaria, very near the famous royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

The Hochland plant, built in 1997, is one of the most important production sites for cream cheese and white cheese in Europe. Here we produce, among other products, the delicious alpine cheese for the Almette brand. Since 2017, all cheeses from the Schongau plant are non-GMO products.

The Fromagerie Henri Hutin is situated among the hills of Lorraine near Verdun. Founded in 1922, the cheese plant became a member of the Hochland Group in 1978.

Creamy soft cheese specialities, some of them under the popular Valbrie brand, and spicy cream cheese are manufactured here according to traditional recipes. Fromagerie Henri Hutin is the first major cheese manufacturer in France to have a non-GMO production.

Hochland Española mainly manufacturers processed cheese slices and grated cheese for pizza and pasta. The plant is situated in Viladecans near Barcelona.

The Spanish subsidiary was founded in 1981 together with the Spanish sales partner Grupo TGT.

Hochland began doing business in Central and Eastern Europe early on – and was instantly successful. Poland was the starting point. Hochland cheese is available on the Polish market since the 1990s. Today, Hochland operates two production sites in Poland and is market leader in cheese.

In Kaźmierz near Poznan, Hochland Polska operates a production facility for processed cheese.

In 2002, the Hochland Group acquired a plant in Wȩgrów. The cheese factory near Warsaw produces cream cheese and hard and semi-hard cheese, some of which is used as raw material for the production in Kaźmierz. Wȩgrów received the certificate for non-GMO production in 2017.

In Romania, Hochland is the No. 1 processed cheese and cream cheese manufacturer. Since 1998 the company has been producing processed cheese for the Romanian market in Sighişoara in Transylvania. The factory is located in the middle of a traditional dairy area. Sighişoara is also the headquarters of Hochland România. The old town of Sighişoara has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

In 1999 Hochland took over a second plant in Sovata, some 80 kilometres north east of Sighişoara. Here, typical Romanian specialities are made such as Cascaval, as well as the raw cheese required for further processing in Sighişoara.

Hochland has produced processed cheese in Russia since 2000. In November 2003 Hochland put their own newly constructed plant into operation in Raos near Moscow.

In July 2011, Hochland took over a factory in Prokhorovka, near the Ukrainian border. Since mid-2012 it is a production site for cream cheese.

The production site in Belinsky, about 500 km southeast of Moscow, has been part of the company since November 2017. It is planned that it will produce branded retail products after reconstruction and will supply cheese as raw material for the processed cheese plant in Raos.

Franklin Foods has a long history: The company was founded in 1899 in Enosburg Falls, Vermont. One of their production sites is still located here today.

The first product was cream cheese, which at that time was particularly popular with bakers in New York, as the main ingredient for the famous New York Cheese Cake.

Today, Franklin Foods has customers in the food processing industry, restaurant chains and food retail industries. The most important brands are "Hahn's" and "Green Mountain Farms".
